New medical facility planned for Leuchars army base

The Ministry of Defence is progressing plans for a replacement health centre at Leuchars Station in Fife.

The former Royal Air Force base is now a barracks for the British Army but requires a replacement medical, dental and primary care facility for the existing building that has reached the end of its life.

CRGP Architects with Graham Construction propose a replacement L-plan block of facing brickwork and textured cladding.

In a statement, CRGP wrote: "The rectangular formed building is predominantly two storeys in height and raises to three storeys at the central circulation core for access & maintenance purposes. The proposed material palette is traditional in response to context and used in a contemporary manner, generally facing brickwork and cladding."

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation has reserved the flat roof for renewables, with the capacity to add and replace services as funding becomes available and technology improves.
