Sculpted distillery to bring Inveraray Castle grounds to life

Part of a B-listed walled garden at Inveraray Castle Estate is earmarked for a high-concept single malt distillery in a new venture led by the Stock Spirits Group.

Coincidentally snapping at the heels of a similar garden distillery in Auchenbowie, the distillery and visitor centre complex is to be delivered by a project team comprising GLM, Blyth & Blyth and The Paul Hogarth Company.

New technologies and processes have permitted a more expressive architectural solution for the sensitive site, working with the protected wall to frame views of the landscaped gardens from low-slung sculpted copper-coloured roofs.

In a statement, the applicant wrote: "The traditional methods are still used to create the whisky. However, new processing methods and technologies for ventilating and exhausting enable new layouts and more expressive structures - creating a new era of the distillery."

Split between public and private elements the complex is positioned a comfortable 0.7 miles behind the castle, preserving picture postcard views from Garron Bridge.

Assuming everything goes according to plan work could begin in 2025 for completion in 2027.
