South Queensferry affordable homes break ground

A sod-cutting ceremony has marked the start of construction on a second phase of affordable homes at South Queensferry.

CALA Homes, with Manor Estates Housing Association, is progressing with the £4.3m build with support from the City of Edinburgh Council and the Scottish Government to deliver 15 apartments and a further 10 terraced properties.

Designed to blend seamlessly with the broader private development and includes cycle connections to the Firth of Forth.

Derek Lawson, strategic land director at Cala Homes (East), said: “Given all the challenges around building new affordable homes in Scotland we are delighted to have agreed all the terms required to start work on this second, larger phase."

Rising in the shadow of the Forth Bridges the scheme is scheduled for completion by March 2026.

It's 2024 and it is unbelievable that we are still building lots of homes that look like this in locations such as this.

The 'affordable' tag is completely meaningless in the context of (well documented) housing cartels controlling the housing supply to keep prices artificially high against a back drop of brainless financialisation of everything.

I sincerely hope no public money went into this although it seems they got some kind of help from the state.
