Social Bite Village relocation spurs expansion
October 10 2024
Edinburgh's pioneering Social Bite village, a cluster of modular homes designed to alleviate the city's homelessness crisis, is to up sticks to a new location before the lease expires on its current site.
Built in 2018 by Robertson to designs by Tiny House the village comprises 10 two-bedroom Nest Houses, each of which will be relocated to a new site further along West Shore Road.
Smith Scott Mullan is handling the flit, with Social Bite seizing the opportunity to build a new community hub and an additional six houses to expand its service.
Outlining their role the architects wrote: "The Village has been made possible in its current location due to a leasing arrangement with The City of Edinburgh Council, which is due to expire. A new location has been identified north of West Shore Road which would allow the relocation of the village along with the provision of a new Community Hub and newer Nest Houses."
Replicating the current village layout of well-spaced homes the scheme will see a new community hub built to serve as its public face.
