Meigle expansion to deliver 100 homes

Campion Homes with Oliver + Robb Architects has launched a new housing development in Meigle, Perthshire, comprising 90 houses and 10 flats.

Completing from spring 2025, Strathmore Meadows will provide a range of private and affordable homes offered through Kingdom Housing Association, unified by a palette of render, weatherboard and slate grey concrete roof tiles.

Arable farmland off Forfar Road has been identified for the build, with properties oriented to frame a dismantled railway siding to the east with active gables.

In a planning statement, the applicant wrote: " A network of Open spaces is a fundamental feature of the design. Structured planting and landscaping to the north and east create a buffer zone... "A centrally located open space interconnects with greenspace being provided for Meigle Primary school to the west."

Reconstituted random course stone walling will create a 'gateway' feature to the development and the established village to the east.

My OCD would go mad every time I came home to photo 2 and saw the random windows and then when I parked in the double garage half in the house, half attached to the house.

@1 Worry not, 99.9% drivers won't even try through that tiny door, leaving car(s) on the driveway.

I’m surprised that P&KC zoned this site for 100 houses, given that Meigle is a small village with virtually no employment - and since around the turn of the century, no bank, a single shop, no chemist etc etc. - hence it’s basically just a dormitory village for Dundee. It seems like gross overdevelopment to me, and will just add more cars to the commute through Newtyle and Muirhead.

I don't know what's worse, the zig zag roads through on street parking, the horrendous rehashed and value engineered CALA/Bett homes designs from the 70s, or building this in a village with practically zero facilities or organic growth demand.
