Collegelands completion nears with arts & homes plan

A major residential development in Glasgow's Calton district has edged a step closer with the submission of a planning application by Manson Architects.
Collegelands Park will provide 595 student beds spread across two blocks alongside a further 147 rental apartments and an arts centre. Dawn Developments, the developer behind the original Collegelands master plan, has teamed up with Drum Property to deliver the final phase as a joint venture known as Glasgow Enlightenment.
Paul O’Donnell of Glasgow Enlightenment said: “We have lowered the heights of the buildings to address concerns around visual impact and have taken on board the feedback on how the park should look from local residents and community groups.
“We are very excited about plans for the development, which will deliver new green space, cultural activities and rented accommodation for the local community, along with much needed homes for students in Glasgow, which has the largest shortage of purpose-built student accommodation in the UK."
The arts hub will be operated by Dream Machine Productions, a local community hub which is fundraising for a new facility. Opening onto 2.5 acres of parkland with sliding glass walls it will serve as a venue for nurturing the talents of locals, students and residents via hireable event space, a community lounge and a café.
The courtyard will also host “Happy to Chat” benches, free Wi-Fi, charging points and spaces that encourage outdoor remote working.
