Paisley's Gothic crowning glory reimagined as a multi-purpose venue

A magnificent former Gothic Revival church in Paisley is to welcome a new type of follower in November as it opens its doors as a music venue for the first time.

Latterly in use as a wedding venue Coats is embarking on a winter programme of events, accommodating up to 1,000 music fans to its nave as well as regular screenings, festivals and other forms of entertainment.

Venue director, Mark Brysland, said, “We are beyond excited to expand the current usage of the venue to the public – more specifically, music lovers everywhere. Coats is a very special place, not only to Paisley, but to Scotland, and it’s always been our vision to marry its cinematic backdrop with incredible music."

Originally built in 1894 Coats was the largest Baptist church in Britain before being renovated as an atmospheric venue following a community fundraising campaign.

Delivered by Framed Estates the £1.5m package of works includes a 40sq/m demountable performance stage.
