Page/Park earns national recognition following 'reuse practice' declaration

Page/Park Architects have been recognised for their contributions to the retrofit sector after championing reuse over new builds.

Earlier this year the architecture firm declared itself to be a 'reuse practice', emphasising the rejuvenation of existing buildings and sites through conservation and improved energy performance as a priority.

Key projects include Teviot Row House in Edinburgh, Leeds Town Hall, and Glencairn House, the oldest building in Dumbarton. This workload shift looks set to continue through the immediate future with a site start being made at Fyvie Castle for the National Trust for Scotland and the Grant Lodge, Elgin, for Moray Council.

This approach has now been recognised by the Architects Journal, which declared Page/Park to be 'Practice of the Year' at their Retrofit and Reuse Awards. Eilidh Henderson, director of Page\Park Architects commented: “We are overjoyed by this recognition of the hard work of our team, and our collective commitment to careful conservation and the creative adaptation of existing buildings.”

Retrofit emerged as a key theme during this year's Scottish Design Awards where Page/Park was bestowed with a Gold Retrofit award for their work on Hyde Park Picture House, sharing the stage with Moxon Architects for their work at Ardoch House.

There's not much of the medieval parts of the castle left but they are older than Glencairn House.
