Riverfront tower to replace former Daily Record HQ

Early concepts for hundreds of homes to replace the former Daily Record HQ at 40 Anderston Quay, Glasgow, have been shared.

Property developer Downing has acquired the 2-acre riverfront site to build 800 student beds and 400 co-living apartments, commissioning Fletcher Joseph Architects to weave this into an emerging masterplan for the wider area.

Following hot on the heels of neighbouring development by Dandara and standing next to a recently completed build-to-rent complex the latest addition to the area would see the existing 150,000sq/ft office block demolished and replaced by mixed residential with ground floor commercial units.

Dominating the site will be a purpose-built student accommodation tower, pushed to the north of the site to free up river views and prevent a wall of buildings from forming along the riverfront. A smaller co-living block will stand alongside.

In a consultation statement, the applicant wrote: "The emerging designs for the area generally comprise a landmark 'tower', in line with the tall building guidance, with lower rise development completing the remaining building footprint."

Arranged around a north-south aligned network of public squares, parks and gardens, the development also includes a raised central terrace providing amenities for residents.

Anything that replaces The Daily Record has to be a good thing.

I've added a diagram better illustrating the position. It's between River Heights and the recent PLATFORM_ tower.

High density and then some.
Interesting to see how the district turns out in reality?
What facilities will develop and will the area generate some leisure / social stuff and if it did would it attract outsiders?

The location of the SEC should help things along.

Two birds / one stone -- bridge to Springfield Quay?
