Dilapidated Pollok shopping precinct set to be rebuilt

A local business owner in Pollok has shared plans to replace a dilapidated convenience store close to the Silverburn Centre with a modern apartment block and integrated retail.

A collection of commercial buildings at 6-8 Haughburn Road will be demolished in favour of 10 affordable flats with basement parking. Reinstating the street edge the SGA Studio design will be accessible by three stair towers to the rear.

In a design statement, the studio wrote: "The building proposed is two storey with accommodation in the attic level, accessed by three stair towers at the rear. Flats are provided at the first and second floors, with the second-floor flats extending to duplex accommodation above.

"The choice of facing brick is intended to provide an enduring, quality finish that will blend harmoniously with the mix of surrounding buildings. It also picks up the new build housing constructed on Househillwood Road. The use of brick detailing to gables, balconies and windows and contrasting brick colours on the stair towers is intended to take full advantage of the inherent qualities of the material and create interest on the elevations."

Existing businesses will be rehoused on the ground floor of the development, accessible from the front with their own dedicated parking court.
