Former Army HQ to live on as bucolic residential address

The developers of a former Scottish army HQ on the outskirts of Edinburgh have shared the first glimpse of the homes planned for the rural site.

Craigiehall Meadows will see the former Criagiehall Barracks refurbished by Miller Developments and the William Pears Group to provide 78 homes with further properties rising within the sprawling grounds.

The bucolic tree-lined site links the River Almond with the 800-acre Dalmeny Estate and counts the leafy Barnton, Cramond and Cammo districts among its neighbours.

Tzana Webster, head of estate agency with Ralph Sayer, said: “These are going to become exceptional homes with large front and back gardens, which is rare across Edinburgh – especially compared to new build developments on the market.

“This will be a perfect base for those who want the outdoors life but within easy reach of the city..."

Craigiehall began life as a 17th-century country house before being requisitioned by the British Army in 1939. It continued in use as the Scottish Army HQ until its closure in 2011.

"Crazyhall" as it was referred to. Clearly it has got a lot more sensible!
