East Kilbride church to make way for 24 flats

A former church at Carnegie Hill, East Kilbride, is to make way for 24 deck access apartments for social rent.

Crawford Architectural has submitted plans to South Lanarkshire Council for a single flatted block at the junction with Mungo Park, arranged over four floors and including a 315sq/m rooftop garden.

Accessible from an extruded stair and lift core the green roof will also house solar panels and building services. Rosewood Homes is behind the project, which would lead to the loss of Righead United Reform Church and an attached hall.

A landscaped amenity space will front the road junction with provision for 26 parking spaces.

A new access route will be formed from Carnegie Hill

Appears to have a multi-storey car park look about it. Fair play if that was the brief.

Think I prefer last years withdrawn proposal, which doesn't say much as that was meh at best. It is such a massive carbuncle of an overdevelopment.

This design is really poor- appears to be no more than a set of plans turned into a lumpen mass. Little apparent consideration of place making, proportion, materiality or any other redeeming features.
I suppose this sub-standard output is what happens when no architect is involved in the design process.
