Snug fit Portobello mews development in for planning
July 11 2024
Sundial Properties and MacKenzie Residential have filed plans for three houses in Portobello, Edinburgh.
Plans drawn up by James Robertson Architect show how a disused commercial building, latterly a trampoline centre, at 3 Windsor Place could make way for three connected properties.
Located in the Portobello conservation area close to the High Street the homes will use flat roofs to minimise their impact with two-storey elements drawn back from the site boundary by at least 9m.
In a design statement, the applicant wrote: "Modest mews houses in a contemporary style are considered an appropriate design language for the site. As a result of the desire to protect the setting of neighbouring buildings whilst still achieving a satisfactory site development density, a flat roofed form has been proposed. It is further proposed that the most efficient means of laying out the three proposed mews houses within the site is to form them from a single block.
"The brickwork retains a modern, more horizontal form, but the painted infill panels ensure that the windows of the new buildings closely relate to the proportions common within the surrounding area."
Subject to approval work could begin before the year is out and conclude by the end of 2025
