Two Scottish projects make the cut at the 2024 RIBA Awards

The Royal Incorporation of British Architects (RIBA) has singled out two Scottish winners in its lineup of the best new architecture in the UK.

Among the 26 winners of the 2024 RIBA National Awards for Architecture was Page/Park's North Gate, a social housing project that has been purpose-built to meet the needs of older residents.

In common with the parallel RIAS Awards, this year's selection leans heavily toward restoration and adaptation, propelling The Fruitmarket Gallery by Reiach & Hall to the head of the pack for bringing new life to an Edinburgh gallery.

Awards Group chair, Simon Henley, commented: “From projects engaged with technology, community, visual arts to hands-on making, these National Winners reflect the breadth of contemporary practice and how architecture itself is an inclusive medium that addresses many of society’s challenges.”

Each winner is in contention for the RIBA Stirling Prize, the shortlist for which will be revealed on 31 July.

I know its a long shot, but it would be great if Reiach and Hall won the Stirling. There contingency in delivering great looking (if a bit puritanical) projects is amazing and deserves wider recognition.
