St Andrews cinema takes a star turn with a celebrity makeover

Moves to expand the entertainment offer of a historic St Andrews cinema dating from the 1930s have received the stamp of approval from Fife planners.
The New Picture House on North Street is to be reimagined by 3DReid Architects by removing a small underutilised screen to accommodate a restaurant and bar.
Works to the main auditorium will create a multi-functional space including four sports simulators, flexible seating and a backstage kitchen - all while retaining the main screen and a second smaller auditorium for films.
In a decision statement, Fife Council wrote: "The proposal is considered acceptable in terms of design, detailing and choice of materials; and would protect and enhance the character and appearance of the conservation area."
The investment by T-Squared Social, a dining and entertainment brand led by Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods, seeks to offset declining cinema audiences by becoming a tourist draw.
