Canonmills residential drive to deliver a further 20 flats

The central Edinburgh neighbourhood of Canonmills is set for further residential growth with plans to replace an existing garage with an apartment block.

Staran Architects, acting on behalf of MCD Homes, propose to clear an 870sq/m site at 21 McDonald Place to erect 20 apartments, superceding an earlier 2016 consent for 11 flats on the same site.

Split between forward and rear elements the proposed brick block will extend the gradual densification of the surrounding area with infill homes and is set back from the street to limit impact on its neighbours. Incorporating a sedum roof, solar panels and a SUDS system the ecologically minded build will incorporate bat boxes and nesting spaces to the rear.

A rooftop penthouse will have exclusive access to a roof deck and hot tub, accessible from below by private lift access and a lobby reserved for the exclusive use of the owner.

Can't wait to look out of the windows of my £250k+ ground floor flat onto beautiful tarmac.

@3 Quick fix - move these houses to outskirts of Tranent where they belong. Definitely not in the short walk from country's capital centre.

#5 Ok you're being flippant, but your underlying point is correct. Bungalows shouldn't have been built in the middle of a capital city centre to begin with.

Blatantly brown bland and brash overdevelopment - surely our town planners will not accept such amateurish in the centre of the nation's capital. Come on.
