Education partnership to deliver a digital campus in Bilston

Midlothian Council has partnered with the University of Edinburgh to deliver a replacement Beeslack High in Bilston.

The 1,600-place school will combine an additional support needs facility and a veterinary practice, currently housed within The University of Edinburgh’s Hospital of Small Animals at the adjacent Easter Bush campus.

Linking the new school to industry and academia the pairing will deliver a hi-tech school that includes an outdoor dining area, swimming pool and sports centre with out-of-hours public access. The Architype-designed school is split between teaching, arrivals and sports, highlighted through contrasting brick and metal cladding.

The additional needs component of the build will take the form of a standalone structure.

Setting the school apart from others will be the integration of the Dick Vet General Practice in a dedicated home designed by AtkinsRealis that will [rovide an additional teaching resource for students.

A separate veterinary practice to the northern site boundary will complete the Beeslack campus

Mental mix -- are the apprentice vets practicing on the pupils?

I know that it is Mid-Lothian but that is a bit extreme.

Dear lord, a kaleidoscope of "21st century bland", if ever that was an architectural genre. Looks like it was designed by 9 people, all of whom studied 3rd gen PoMo, via fax, then forgot half of it. A Temu version of Mae's colours, with Morris & Co scale, and all the ambition of Coltart Earley. Also, was this not meant to be Passivhaus, or did that just slip out when the costs hit 100 mill? And weren't Architype another lot suffering from the ill-fated negative bank balances at the moment? Another failed concept then, all round...
