Underutilised Colinton coach house to be put to community use

A former coach house at Spylaw Park, Colinton, will be turned into a community hub following a community asset transfer by the City of Edinburgh Council.

Currently underutilised as storage space MDA Studio proposes to improve utility by raising the roof of the current building to accommodate a new first floor with direct access to the Water of Leith walkway.

A short section of metal railings will be removed to permit access to the first floor, a modern construction of black standing seam metal and blackened timber.

The enlarged space will serve Colinton Village Enterprise to host community events such as Art in the Park, a meeting point and creative hub.

The charitable organisation paid £40k for the property, below its market value of £55k, having demonstrated its broad community benefits such as education, wellbeing and improving access to green space.
