Partick church extension to accommodate a growing congregation

A Partick church hall is to be expanded to accommodate a growing congregation with a new extension combined with internal alterations.
Wellwood Leslie Architects proposes to upgrade the Crow Road Free Church will be opened up by the installation of new glass doors to the front, complementing a modest single-storey side extension.
Conceived by the architects as a second 'front door' the extension will double as a gathering and collaboration space while also improving access to ancillary structures to the rear. Championed as a means to improve community engagement by hosting events and classes the works will be augmented by external paving, planting and integrated seating.
An overarching reconfiguration of the existing spaces will see partitions removed from a secondary hall to the rear, creating a more usable room with an adjoining break-out area and kitchen.
In a planning statement, the architects wrote: "The existing red painted timber doors, locked gates and railings create an unwelcoming first impression of the building, with the side doors most used by users. New frameless glass entrance doors and alterations to the entrance lobby are proposed to improve the entrance experience and provide a glimpse into the main sanctuary from outside.
"The proposed alteration works and extension will create a more inviting, diverse and functional home for the Crow Road Free Church community. This development will improve accessibility, encourage collaboration, and enhance and preserve the overall aesthetic of the church building."
The new extension will be clad in natural slate rain screen with a natural timber ceiling.
