Delivery has begun on 38 affordable homes in Gullane, East Lothian as part of the Saltcoats Grange development.

Billed as one of the first such developments in the region to be fully provided with air-source heat pumps the properties are being built by Cala Homes (East) to be managed by Places for People upon completion.

The tenure blind addition joins a mix of apartments, cottage flats, semi-detached and terraced homes at the expanding site.

Derek Lawson, strategic land director with Cala Homes (East), said: “This is our largest affordable housing project in Gullane over a nearly 10-year programme of building.  “The air source heat pumps will bring meaningful benefit to the people that live here, complementing the wider energy-saving features of the homes and at a much lower carbon cost compared to a gas boiler."

Full occupation of this phase is expected by the end of 2025 and follows refurbishment of the former Scottish Fire and Rescue College.

Pretty bleak landscape as it stands.
