Student housing bid to save Glasgow City Mission from the wrecking ball

Glasgow's Broomielaw waterfront is the frontline in the latest expansion of student accommodation across the city centre, with plans to deliver a purpose-built block on land previously earmarked for a giant office complex.

Student housing developer Valeo Management Europe has recruited Flow Design Architects for the project, which will deliver 500 student rooms above ground floor commercial units on Carrick Street.

David Saunders, managing director of Valeo, said: “The Broomielaw and wider River Clyde Waterfront is undergoing significant transformation, and we hope that our plans will go somewhere to supporting this transition as well as providing much needed student rooms in Glasgow."

A proposal of application has already been filed for the site, encompassing vacant commercial premises and the newly built Glasgow City Mission, the latter of which will be granted a stay of execution as it is to be retained and integrated within the new design - not demolished as per the prior plan.

A two-step consultation process will kick off on 18 June at Box Hub on Washington Street between 15:00 and 19:00.
