Raised bridge to provide a landscape link for Glasgow University's Kelvin Building
May 23 2024
The University of Glasgow has filed a new application for listed building consent to erect a pedestrian link bridge, first approved back in 2018.
Revised drawings by Keppie Design show how the second floor of the Kelvin Building will connect directly to open ground to the east by a raised bridge as part of a broader overhaul of the B-listed building.
The bronze bridge will incorporate LED strip lighting to the underside of balustrades to wash the precast base in light at night. Finished in a combination of light and dark bronze cladding the link will rest on a solid base of pre-cast acid-etched concrete panels.
To facilitate the new connection a window opening will be punched out to provide a new entrance and lobby area.
