Developer spins up new homes in a New Gorbals cotton mill

A former cotton mill has been knitted back into the fabric of Glasgow following its conversion into 100 apartments.
The B-listed TwoMax Building, now known as Cottonyards, traces its origins to 1820s and is an established part of the evolving New Gorbals residential area.
Westpoint Homes with CRGP Architects has guided its transition from industrial to residential use, with a twin-track approach that saw the main mill refurbished while erecting a new building next door.
Caryl Speirs from Westpoint Homes said: “The TwoMax building is a remarkable piece of history – and a striking fixture in the area. The former factory is the oldest surviving building in Hutchesontown, both a vestige of Glasgow’s textile industry and a symbol of the city’s cultural heritage."
Built around a private courtyard Cottonyards delivers warehouse living with open-plan spaces and bare brick walls.
