Kingussie hoteliers to create a contemporary family home

The grounds of a Kingussie hotel could host a newly built family home under new plans submitted on behalf of the owners.
Jewitt and Wilkie Architects have been appointed by the owners of Ardselma, a Victorian villa converted to a hotel, to build a detached house with a garage and home office on an 865 sq/m woodland plot, close to the village centre.
Ohana will adopt a contemporary rural style, segregating living spaces and sleeping quarters with two separate timber-clad blocks linked by a glazed entrance hall.
A design report authored by the architects notes: "The design concept saw a separation in the function of the spaces, a living block with the kitchen, dining room and living area that maximised space and light, whilst taking full advantage of the southern views from the site.
"This space was to be separated by a single storey overhanging canopy entrance, which provided an alternative “muddy” entrance for children, pets and working adults into a utility area before setting foot into the main house. The larger family block accommodated the bedrooms and snug, whilst also providing a home office above the garage space."
Incorporated office space will support a growing game-keeping business.
