Selkirk timber frame specialist expands to meet housing demand

A Selkirk-based timber frame firm is embarking on a new phase of expansion with the delivery of a 900m2 office block from which to manage an increase in manufacturing capacity.
Barratt Developments is investing £24m in the facility following its acquisition of Oregon, doubling the capacity of the current temporary accommodation and incorporating a training room, meeting spaces and an improved kitchen.
Upon completion in 2025 the volume housebuilder will expand the manufacturing capacity to meet its goal of utilising modern off-site construction methods for the delivery of new homes.
Douglas McLeod, regional managing director for Barratt Developments Scotland, said: “Starting construction on phase one of this expansion is a fantastic milestone for us. Since acquiring Oregon five years ago, we’ve worked hard to bring our plans to fruition, so commencing work on the new office is one step closer to achieving our goals.
“The new block will double in capacity which aligns perfectly with our ambitions to create new employment opportunities in Selkirk. We’ve invested in a great business with a high quality product and look forward to rolling out both phases of the project.”
Barratt is investing in off-site construction as a means to lower carbon emissions, reduce waste and reduce time spent on-site by around five weeks. The expanded plant will help the housebuilder meet its goal of ensuring a minimum of 30% of new homes utilise the technology from 2030.
In 2023 Barratt delivered 3,200 of 17,000 new UK homes using off-site techniques.
