Architects go for gold with a southside villa extension

A dramatic gold-hued extension to a villa in Glasgow's Southside is expected to break ground by the end of the year following its approval by planners.
NVDC Architects won consent to erect a three-storey side extension and two-storey rear extension to a detached Victorian villa, removing non-original extensions and a conservatory in the process.
Both additions will more than double the size of the current property, establishing a large open-plan space with unobstructed garden views from a covered veranda.
Employing blonde sandstone, gold-coloured zinc and white render the new additions adopt a contemporary aesthetic, incorporating water features for their calming properties.
NVDC Principal and Project Architect Farahbod Nakhaei said: "NVDC are keen to develop an architectural design that is of it’s time yet sensitive and contextual, full of internal drama, daylight, surprise, and delight as well as having a strong connection with the garden, grounds and nature."
Due to be completed by the end of 2025 the home will employ passive energy systems to help power a steam room and sauna.
NVDC have embraced their clients love of water to introduce a reflection pool along the side elevation
