Glasgow Academy to expand Anniesland Sporting Campus
April 25 2024
Glasgow Academy has finalised a £12m drawn up by Sheppard Robson to upgrade its Anniesland Sporting Campus to improve facilities and accessibility.
Three development zones at the campus, by Anniesland Cross, have been identified to provide new rugby and hockey pitches as well as an upgraded clubhouse, financed by the sale of land at Lower Windyedge for housing.
Improved floodlighting will also be delivered in tandem with the provision of on-site teaching facilities to reduce travel requirements back and forth to the school's Kelvinbridge home.
Gavin Halliday, chief operating officer at The Glasgow Academy, said: “Over the last 18 months, we have worked closely with a trusted project team to develop a masterplan that will futureproof the campus and enhance our reputation as a world-class sporting destination. The Glasgow Academy equally prides itself on being a community partner, with many local groups and sports clubs already using our facilities.
“Under these plans, we can extend this and welcome more people to our community."
The project team includes Porter Planning, Rankin Fraser, Goodson Associates and Atelier Ten.

I will declare an interest both as an alumni & someone who lives fairly close by.
Sounds good until you realise that the vast majority of these reduced fee pupils are actually on a family volume discount scheme where the first child pays full whack but any younger siblings get a discount.
Much as this goes against the communist chip on your shoulder the harsh reality is we would be worse off.
This is a good proposal as it promotes recreational green space, health and wellbeing, and better sports facilities the community have access to.
