Edinburgh's Craigiehall estate primed for suburban expansion
April 22 2024
The A-listed Craigiehall House and 96 acres of land, formerly the headquarters of the British Army in Scotland, have been sold to Miller Developments and the William Pears Group.
The prime site on the northwest fringe of Edinburgh, close to the suburbs of Cammo, Cramond and Dalmeny, is currently home to 78 MoD houses, all of which will be refurbished. A B-listed anti-aircraft operations room will also be incorporated into the plans.
The remaining land is earmarked for residential development subject to future planning consent.
Real estate Savills, which helped broker the deal, said: “The combination of this attractive and historical property, and its exceptional setting on the banks of the River Almond, makes it a very special opportunity indeed.
“Nearby existing residential enclaves are in high demand from those who wish to be in easy reach of the city centre, yet close to the airport and to Scotland’s rail and motorway network, including the new Queensferry Crossing across the Firth of Forth.”
The sell-off forms part of a consolidation of the defence estate to a 'super barracks' in Kirknewton.
