Three-pronged Gordonstoun investment to build a sustainable future
April 17 2024
A North East independent school has announced plans for significant expansion over the next three years with the delivery of a coastguard centre, solar farm and completion of a 'classroom village.
Gordonstoun in Elgin is to embark on a campus masterplan plan worth £15m, beginning with a new home for the school's rescue and community services by the end of the year.
This will be followed by a dedicated solar farm to provide low-carbon energy that is expected to be operational in 2025. Rounding off the capital plan is the latest addition to Gordonstoun's classroom village, a multi-purpose space combining a sixth form and business centre that should open in 2026.
Wendy Mason, director of Rivington Street Studio, said: “The new Sixth Form Centre will provide a good quality social space similar to what you would find at university. With a training kitchen to learn cooking skills, an informal study area and a café this new building will give them their own identity and provide a gateway to whatever they do beyond Gordonstoun, whether that is going to university or something else.
“Having the Business Enterprise Hub in the same building is ideal to support and encourage those senior students wishing to pursue a career in business."
Accessible by a raised walkway and surrounded by an ecological wetland the centre is expected to be underway in a matter of months.

With that said, this proposal seems pretty bland and uninspiring for an educational facility such as Gordonstoun.
