Oban bulks up with storehouse apartments bid
April 12 2024
A disused storehouse in Oban is to be demolished and replaced by six flats under plans submitted by Bracewell Stirling. The Shore Street site lies between the ferry terminal and the town centre, opening the possibility to create a more urban approach to the high traffic site.
Stating the advantages of redevelopment the applicant wrote: "The main thoroughfare for ferry traffic travels past the site on the way to the centre of Oban, passing a number of notable modern buildings as it does so.
"Proceeding towards Argyll Square this gives way to lacklustre forms that fail to provide a significant approach to the town centre, highlighting the importance of a dominant form on the corner of Campbell and Shore Streets."
Making use of sandstone details the scheme will acknowledge an adjacent tenement with a ground floor partially clad in natural stone, linked by a feature arched gate inspired by church windows.
The bulk of the building will be finished in white render and modern cladding in a similar style to an approved hotel next door.
