Aberdeen consults on improved South Harbour road connectivity
April 10 2024
Aberdeen City Council is hosting a public exhibition of its plans for a new road connecting Wellington Road to the South Harbour area.
The Aberdeen South Harbour Link Road project comprises 2.5 miles of upgraded roads including a new bridge over the rail line to Dundee and a realignment of Hareness Road.
Designed to reduce journey times for heavy goods vehicles heading to the City Bypass the route also includes provision for improved public transport and active travel options.
Outlining the need for a new railway crossing the authority wrote: "The new crossing allows abnormal loads to cross the railway which is currently impossible in the existing scenario due to the tight bends on its approaches and requirement for signalisation.
"The walking, wheeling and cycling facility crosses over to the east side of the road (carriageway) north of the proposed Aberdeen to Dundee railway crossing before connecting to the existing walking, wheeling and cycling facilities.
"The existing core path running along the eastern edge of the Aberdeen to Dundee railway line is cut off by the footprint of the new link road so it has been realigned to slowly climb the embankment slope as the road approaches the coastguard station."
Feedback on the planned route, developed with engineering consultancy Sweco, is invited through to 6 May.
