Camouflaged comfort station to give Taymouth Castle golfers a break

The grounds of Taymouth Castle are to be augmented by a random vertical timber comfort station under new plans prepared by McKenzie Strickland Associates.

The golf amenity building will be raised on stilts, accessible via a bridge link from a planned seating area to offer elevated landscape views from a south-facing platform.

Built in a forested area on a steeply sloping site the rainscreen-clad structure is designed to blend into the existing tree canopy.

In a supporting statement, the architects wrote: "The solid and void of the rainscreen, with the boards, sometimes positioned over solid wall and sometimes lapping over glazing, is done to evoke the solids and voids of the surrounding trees. The aim is to visually break up the building outline for it to blend in with its surroundings."

A mono-pitch green roof carrying photovoltaic panels will help to power the structure.

'Aye, ye's kin use oor comfort station, but we'll ne'er lose oor colonial mindset!'
