Former Kirkcaldy school hosts dozens of new homes

Whiteburn Projects have shown off their development of 87 new homes on the site of a C-listed former school in Kirkcaldy.

The brownfield site has been transformed with the help of LBA Architects to provide a range of accommodations for the Kingdom Housing Association.

Speaking to minister for housing Paul McLennan on a site visit Whiteburn managing director Eve McCurrich said: “We talked in detail about the challenges of brownfield regeneration and NPF 4, as well as the general challenges of the planning system and working with Local Authorities to secure planning and technical consents for our sites.

"We welcomed the opportunity to discuss these aspects of our business directly with the minister and raise the question of what funding mechanisms the government can initiate to support of delivery of more housing of all tenures across Scotland.”

Enjoying an elevated position overlooking the Firth of Forth Viewforth the project incorporates the former Viewforth High School which is being turned into 14 apartments.

Well designed place making, constructed and delivered by Whiteburn. It is an exemplar brownfield development providing much needed housing across private & social tenures. The Affordable Housing is designed/delivered with the help of City Architecture Office to provide a range of accommodations for Kingdom Housing Association.

#1 - I don't really see much in the way of 'place-making' as you call it.
Just wait till those valley gutters fill with leaves and the water starts pishing in. Oh, and are we not doing accessibility any more?
