Pioneering wellness-centred community takes shape in Forres
February 20 2024
Evolving plans for a wellness-centred community south of Forres has taken a step forward with Moray Council hosting an exhibition of its latest plans.
Emphasising outdoor space and food growing to promote physical activity and improve mental health Dallas Dhu will provide a mix of affordable homes and student accommodation, with a variety of self-build plots as part of an exploration of more innovative forms of house building.
Working with Altyre Estate and Grampian Housing Association will deliver 24 affordable homes and release 10 serviced plots suitable for anything from a tiny house to a terrace of co-housing units or a custom self-build. Robin Livingstone from Fraser/Livingstone Architects commented: “We want to encourage the evolution of an inclusive community including growing families, singles, couples, and downsizers. Enabling individuals and groups to deliver homes built for the needs of residents is key to making that work.
“We see the potential to explore collaborative design principles within the house designs, the possibility of common spaces, shared landscaping and in the construction methods and environmental credentials.”
A variety of materials and forms are being explored for the finalised designs ranging from black and red stained timber cladding to render and natural timber to bring variety to the streetscapes.
