New head of outreach to help the RIAS find its voice
February 19 2024
The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) has appointed its first head of outreach, a new role intended to strengthen the architecture body's communication of policies and amplify its campaigning voice.
Stuart Hay arrives at Rutland Square from Living Streets and is tasked with harnessing his powers of persuasion to capture the minds of policymakers and the public.
Notable achievements from a 20-year career in the charitable sector include a successful campaign to ban pavement parking in his prior role at Living Streets, having previously taken the lead on a European project promoting new approaches to historic building retrofit while working for Changeworks.
Hay commented: "Throughout my career, I have seen the difference good design can make by creating vibrant public spaces and sustainable buildings. Despite Scotland’s ambitious national policies on design, there is still work to be done to empower and properly support a thriving architectural profession.”
Hay holds a master's degree in town planning from Heriot-Watt University.
