Gushet student flats flaunt their curves
February 9 2024
Flow Design Architects have filed plans for their next purpose-built student housing project at a prominent gushet site in Edinburgh following earlier consultations.
Land at 185-187 Dundee Street and 4/5 Dundee Terrace, currently a shop and showroom, has been acquired by Glencairn Properties for the car-free build.
Following demolition, this will be replaced by a six-storey block with replacement commercial space on the ground floor. Addressing the junction with a curvaceous corner the Boomerang-plan design will shelter a south-facing public space from the busy Western Approach road. The brick-clad building also features a north-facing roof terrace and makes provision for a new pedestrian connection to an existing footbridge.
New planting along Dundee Terrace will soften the building as it meets the ground and the top floor footprint will be pulled back from the building line to further lessen its impact.
The design team includes HarrisonStevens and Will Rudd. Visualisations provided courtesy Dalgety Design.
