LMA approach a walled garden home from a different angle

Planning permission has been obtained for a statement home on the Ayrshire coast following a complete overhaul of the original cylindrical consent.
Revisiting their original design with a more conventional form on behalf of a new client LMA has built on the underlying design while straightening out its edges.
Occupying a substantial plot adjacent to Glenfoot House, between Seamill and Ardrossan, the new design builds on the remains of a walled garden to offset concern around 'ribbon development' along the coast.
Setting out their revised approach LMA wrote: "The rectilinear shape with offset flat-roofed boxes breaks the established pattern of conventional two-storey houses with pitched roofs, and reads as a stand-alone item, in both form and location. It echoes the strong horizontal line of the existing wall, against the surrounding countryside, and is set within its context to read as an ‘object in the landscape’."
Favouring practicality over flamboyance the chosen design pushes the boundary back to the current wall, again opened up by large format glazing. First-floor accommodation is scaled back in tandem with this retreat to deliver a more low-key solution.
