Replacement Whitecraig Primary set for spring start
February 5 2024
East Lothian Council has appointed Morrison Construction to deliver a replacement primary school in Whitecraig to address population pressures arising from significant housebuilding.
The £18.5m contract, awarded following a competitive tender, will commence this spring on land adjacent to the current post-war building.
Councillor Fiona Dugdale said: “Our vision is for a modern school that is energy efficient and supports excellent teaching and learning. We also believe that it can support the wider community and, together with the Whitecraig Village Hub, provides spaces and opportunities for residents.
“Cost pressures on construction projects are significant with inflation driving up prices. Our teams have worked hard to design a project that can be delivered within available capital funding and will work closely with Morrison Construction during the process to ensure it remains within budget."
Offering eight classrooms the replacement school, designed by the local authorities' in-house architect, will incorporate an early years centre behind a facade of charcoal grey brick and copper cladding panels.
The school will welcome its first pupils in the 2025/26 academic session.
