Healthy progress for Macmon
December 5 2008
Macmon are toasting national recognition after Gartnavel Royal Hospital secured the 2008 NHS Scotland Environment, Estates and Facilities Design Award and has also been commended in the Best Mental Health Design category at the Building Better Healthcare Awards ceremony in London.A broad church of opinion was solicited for the £19m Private Finance Initiative (PFI) project which saw consultation with Robertson Capital Projects, the design team, technical advisors from the health authority and patients.
Integral to the design was a considered utilisation of natural light and ventilation to afford patients a sensation of space and ambience to subtly impress upon the recovery process.
Gartnavel is only one of many health care projects to be borne to fruition by Macmon, who have garnered a steady stream of hospital commissions. A fortuitous pipeline in the current climate.
Their current catalogue includes ongoing work at the State Hospital in Carstairs.
Young & Gault architects were responsible for the initial concepts and creation of the public sector comparator (PSC) design prior to Macmon Architects being handed the reigns.
