Campsie cabin to burnish Lennoxtown tourism

A brownfield site in Lennoxtown commanding a dominant presence amongst the foothills of the Campsie Fells has been earmarked for a one-off cabin retreat.

S2 Architecture will bring the site back to life in the service of the local tourism industry by erecting a distinctive bolt hole amidst Campsie Golf Club off Craw Road.

Accessible by track the rural site was formerly occupied by a house, since demolished, and was latterly occupied by Scottish Water. Pipework and infrastructure relating to this past remains in situ, including a large water cylinder below the ground. The cabin will stand directly atop this feature on stilts and draw water from a nearby pond.

In a planning statement, S2 wrote: "This cabin promotes a sustainable and striking approach in one of the most desirable locations for tourist accommodation in Scotland.

"The abandoned brownfield site will enhance the greenbelt with the addition of trees and hedges to replace a 2.4m high metal security fence. We believe that the cabin retreat will have a significant impact on local tourism within the Campsie Fells however it will have minimal impact on its surroundings."

Boasting generous 5m span glazing and a green roof the timber-clad cabin includes a hot tub entrance, two bedrooms and an open-plan living space.
