Frameless glass extension to show the light to a Gourock church

A B-listed Gourock church boasting elevated views across the River Clyde is to go residential conversion under plans filed by Rebecchi Architectural.

St Bartholomew's Episcopal Church on Barrhill Road will undergo a full conversion, with a new mezzanine level opening up the interior and a frameless glass extension putting the exterior in a new light.

Other proposed interventions include the installation of conservation-style roof windows and a flue for a wood-burning stove.

Once complete the former church will offer its new occupants a comfortable three bedroom spread over two levels with guest accommodation and a dedicated office.

A raised terrace will also be erected and off street parking provision provided.

Curious - what's the point of the glass extension? Surely it cant be a usable room (overheating in summer, too cold in winter, cant imagine it passes building regs).

That glass is going to stain - badly - especially the valley gutters.

Tragic bastardisation of a beautiful church. Surely this will not get approval.
