Historic Leith bingo hall to declare a full house
January 10 2024
A soon to close bingo hall on Leith's Manderston Street is to be conserved and redeveloped as student housing under plans brought forward by Longstone and Oberlanders.
The developer will work to preserve the heritage of the conservation area by preserving aspects of the current building, housed beneath a former railway line, after its current owners decant to Ocean Terminal this summer.
Having ruled out conversion to mainstream housing owing to difficulties in providing dual-aspect dwellings and meeting minimum open space requirements the focus now is on providing studio rooms that fit within the existing envelope.
A Longstone spokesperson said: “The local community has expressed a strong desire to conserve the former mill building and our plans for the site allow us to do this.
“While enhancing the character of the Conservation Area, the conversion of the building will help to relieve pressure on the local housing market."
A public consultation outlining the plans will be held on 17 January.

A collection of 70's flats / social housing stodge and a row of pimped up railway arches.
Auld Reekie boosterism -- goes without saying -- but someone really is having a giraffe.
