Studio LBA settle into their Kinross-shire second home

Studio LBA has begun 2024 in style by applying the finishing touches to a net zero rural office shared with local businesses.
The Edinburgh headquartered architecture and design practice has ventured off the beaten track to Orwell Farm, Kinross, rescuing a series of dilapidated farm buildings on Glenrothes Road to serve as a sustainability exemplar.
Masterminded by managing directors Lynsay Bell and Jeff Manson the project emphasises reuse and local materials, serving as a statement of the practices low low-energy principles.
Works include the conversion of a former steading to office use, employing low carbon technologies are located throughout including solar panels and ground source heat pumps.
Jeff Manson, co-owner of Orwell Farm, commented: “Our vision was to create a sustainable space where a community of businesses can all work, grow and thrive together and we’re continuing to work towards that.
“With consumers becoming increasingly aware of environmental issues and actively seeking brands that prioritise more than just products, services and profits, businesses are looking at their carbon footprint and sustainability. This is where Orwell Farm comes in.”
The rural business hub combines retail units with net zero self-contained offices, catering to businesses small and large from 'work pods' through to a 2,000sq/ft 'Dutch Barn'.
