Mareel, Shetland’s £12m music, cinema and education venue, has secured £2.8m of European funding.The Gareth Hoskins designed project is being championed by Shetland Island Council.
The multi purpose cultural centre for the island community will be built on the Lerwick waterfront and provide auditoriums for dance, song and film.
Proving that no man is an island the cutting edge centre will afford islanders the opportunity to engage in a fully fledged creative community allowing an outlet for passions of performance, recording and rehearsal whilst training a new generation of artists.
The development timeframe stipulates a construction start in the spring of 2009 with completion anticipated for 2011.
