Aberdeen South Harbour expands with an onshore energy park
November 9 2023
Outline plans for an 'Energy Transition Zone' in Aberdeen constituting business and industrial routes connected by a coastal active travel route have been prepared by Ironside Farrar.
Documents illustrate how the newly built Aberdeen South Harbour could be augmented by industrial development around the former Ness landfill, spread between three connected parcels of land at the Doonies, Gregness and St Fittick's Park.
Stretching to over 35 hectares the work would stretch from Cove to Balnagask, made possible by improvement works to the Coast Road funded by the city council.
In a planning statement, the consultants wrote: "The masterplan sets a framework for development across a wide area encompassing Aberdeen South Harbour, proposed LDP ‘Opportunity Sites’ for Energy Transition Zone development, brownfield land within East Tullos and Altens, road and other infrastructures, and significant areas of green and open space."
The deep water quay has been purpose-built to provide marine infrastructure for the freight and renewable energy sector.
