Designs finalised for Dundee's Eden Project
November 8 2023
The Eden Project, Dundee, has hosted a further community meeting at the V&A Dundee to showcase its latest plans for the landscape-led regeneration of a former gasworks.
The brownfield site at East Dock Street on the banks of the River Tay will become home to a series of sweeping walled gardens that pay homage to the city's industrial heritage, an echo of the famous reimagining of a former Clay quarry in Cornwall.
A formal planning application is expected later this month for the visitor experience, upon which ambitious health, well-being and community improvement hopes are being pinned.
Key components of the green masterplan, led by Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios with Nicoll Rusell Studios and Gros Max, include a pedestrian bridge spanning East Dock Street, conversion of a gas holder into a glass house and a 'green gateway' to draw visitors eastwards along the waterfront.
Head of programme delivery Darren Hoare said: “The planning application we will submit later this month is the result of a huge collaborative effort between the Eden team, our partners and the community and we are really proud of what we have achieved together.”
The site will play host to exhibits, performance, learning, play, immersive experiences, horticulture, live music, art, and food, beverage and retail spaces.
