Sighthill urban renewal delivers 184 tenure blind homes

184 mixed-tenure homes in Sighthill, Edinburgh, have been recognised for their inclusive, energy efficient and accessible design.

Anderson Bell + Christie has been working with the City of Edinburgh Council on the urban renewal project since 2015, replacing high-rise housing on the fringes of Sighthill Park with family accommodation.

Focussed on providing safe pedestrian routes to the park and Napier University the project frames terraced housing with four-storey apartment blocks with three-storey feature gables picking out key corners.

Jonathan McQuillan, director at Anderson Bell + Christie, said: “The design process for this project was based on a masterplan and design guide resulting in a neighbourhood with a ‘sense of place’ – a coherent and consistent character with attractive streets and greenspaces.

“We’re proud to share that it has improved the housing choices available and provides accessible homes across Sighthill as well as them being energy efficient which will help reduce fuel poverty and minimize carbon emissions in the area."

The project was awarded an 'Excellence in Regeneration and Sustainability’ Award at the 2023 Chartered Institute of Housing Awards.
