A former public convenience in Edinburgh's Morningside has taken on a new lease of life as residential apartments.

Rennick Property and LDN Architects have spent a few pennies to turn the site at 7 Canaan Lane into a five-storey apartment block faced in natural sandstone to blend in with surrounding tenements.

Andrew Rennick of Rennick Property said: “This is a stunning new property just off Morningside Road providing eight new apartments and two penthouse suites featuring impressive glass balustrade balconies. The property includes a private entrance for residents and a lift to all floors.”

The timber frame building, chosen for its low embodied energy and low weight, was delivered with the support of structural engineer Will Rudd.

Entry is provided by a recessed timber-clad porch while a set-back top floor incorporates fully retractable glazing to form a roof terrace behind a concealed glass balustrade.
