Crosswind Developments has staged a second community engagement event for a 'car-lite' neighbourhood on an old runway at Edinburgh Airport, complementing work at West Town.

A 65-acre brownfield site at Gogar has been identified for 2,500 homes alongside a primary school, offices and other services to establish a self-sufficient community designed by jmarchitects.

Elements Edinburgh is positioned as a mixed-use extension of the city, capitalising on excellent transport connectivity including trams and trains while minimising the need for travel by building to 20-minute neighbourhood principles.

Espousing the principles behind the development Crosswinds wrote: "Our ambition for Elements Edinburgh is car-lite development with active travel at its heart, the designated walking, pedalling and wheeling paths will connect through the site and beyond connecting with neighbouring developments and the wider city without increasing private car ownership.

"Our site offers easy access to established public transport routes, its proximity to the Edinburgh Gateway station and the Edinburgh Tram network further supporting our car-lite design, and the potential increased public transport passengers should result in improvements in both frequency and capacity of public transport options for all."
