Bathgate leisure park to bring history to life
October 25 2023
Early concepts to deliver a countryside leisure park near Bathgate have been published by private investment firm SRD Rural.
Augmenting the existing Couston Country & Water Park, set within a former quarry, the £10m proposals would introduce an arrival building, event space and activity centre among other assets.
A design team including 56three Architects and LUC landscape architects propose short-stay lodges, sculpture trails and a treetop adventure course to help bolster the West Lothian attraction as a major leisure destination.
A new access road from the A800 will lead to a new arrival building formed from stone and steel, intended as a contemporary reflection of traditional Scottish architecture. This will be augmented by a lochside activity centre as well as floating and hilltop lodges.
An SRD spokesperson said: “Couston Country and Water Park will be a highly attractive destination for families and others looking to enjoy the great outdoors and enjoy Scotland’s history in an exciting and creative way."
An outdoor event space for historical re-enactments and nature displays is also planned, including temporary 'performing backdrops' to help set the scene.
